Tags: Played with the StandardBrains Editor (here, here, here, etc.) idea for a while today, with the
hope to do a FireFox version of it. The SB editor would be the perfect interface for editing things like wikiwiki pages, as I have noted years
ago. Basically, I would like to keep wiki’s ideas that (a) everything
is freely editable, […]

I’ve long suspected that the Roomba is a "minespeeper for dirt", but I
didn’t know it analyzes vibration patterns of the dirt. Is this
possible?

When the robot drives across a particularly dirty patch of carpet or
floor, sensors begin to "listen" to dirt through a vibration detector.
The navigation system then steers the robot in circles […]

This is a java-based system in which you can specify formal models of
state transitions. The SMC then compiles (somethings) for you, which
somehow makes object-oriented programming easier. Much of the detail is
above my head. Not sure this is useful as a basis for eye movement
experiments.

Pyrex sounds like a good alternative to SWIG, or a plain C extension. But, oh boy, it does generate ugly C code. Fortunately, it automatically compiles everything so we don’t have to be exposed to the trash.
I don’t see how to put Pyrex together to existing C libraries, though.

In searching for a Python audio interface for the
EyeLink experimental software, I was looking for something that
supports ASIO and is easy to use. Snack seems to be showing its age.
PySonic/fMOD sounds really interesting, but recording might be a issue.

FMOD supports ASIO, which should be great for fast audio IO. However,
at this point, recording is nor supported. For that, SNACK seems to be
a better choice.

Tags: Yesterday I made some changes to the SDL 1.2.8 source and recompiled it
into SDL.dll and SDL.lib. Then I had to recompile PyGame 1.6 to (a)
accommodate the changes in display.set_mode(), and (b) to create
executable pygame extensions.
Compiling pyGame was a new experience to me. Basically, you run the
"setup.py" script, which cleverly figures out the SDL library […]

Tags: While working on the CJKE project, I found that PyGame’s display.flip()
function sometimes returns immediately, but sometimes takes up to 20ms
to return. This became a nightmare because on the one hand I cannot
tell when the display change actually happened (not waiting for
retrace), and on the other hand it may miss saccade/fixation deadlines,
making display changes visible.
