Steven Stahl passed away

I don’ t know Steven Stahl personally, but I admire his work. In response to a readers’ comment on my Profile page of him, I was surprised to find that his name was taken off from the UIUC Ed School faculty list.

The only lead I was able to find was the following book on Janet Gaffney’s web page:

Anderson, R. C., Wang, Q., Gaffney, J. S. (in press). Comprehension research over the past three decades. In K. A. Dougherty Stahl & M. C. McKenna (Eds), Seeking understanding in how to teach reading: Selected works by Steven Stahl and a Memorial Festschrift. New York: Guilford.

Finally, I was able to find the following May 10, 2004 Obituary on News-Gazette, a local Urbana-Champaign news paper. A year after his death, I could find no official announcement from UIUC or any obituary on national media. Sigh.
