Yasuhiro Shirai
Yasuhiro Shirai came to our poster the last, after pretty much everybody had left the floor. I knew he is a friend of Li Ping and had edited a book together on children’s aquisition of aspect, but didn’t know — should have guessed — that he is also familiar with Foon Ha and Reiko.
Just the right person I wanted to talk with. So I went over the poster — for the 20th time of the night. Before I could ask him about the aspect marking question, he commented that there is a topological trend for language to mark CF with aspect. Wow, I’ve been searching for this for, let’s see, must be over a year now. The conversation was more than pleasant — it’s exciting. He mentioned a couple of names that I should check out, which I wrote on the poster (hope Li haven’t thrown them away). Definitely need to follow up with him.
He is moving from Cornell to U Pitt.
