iPod Touch Calendar now syncs with Google Calendar
No, Apple still blocks access to its default calendar program on iPhone/iPodTouch, and going through iTunes or MobileMe involves Outlook (on the Windows side), which I strongly detest and have uninstalled even though we have a site license for it. I was searching for an over-the-air solution, and someone has come up with a fantasticly simple solution (free for now)
NuevaSync - Over the Air Synchronization
What is NuevaSync?
NuevaSync allows direct, over-the-air, native synchronization of certain smart phones and PDA devices with public PIM, and calendaring services including Google Calendar. NuevaSync does not need any software installed on your device because it uses synchronization protocols that are already built in.
The idea is to offer an Exchange server-like interface for free. In the backend, they acquire the info from Google Apps, including Calendar, Contact, and (not yet) gmail.
they seem to use Google’s authentication API, which means that technically you are not giving away your password (or one would hope).
The service is in beta, and its Blog indicate periodic service interruptions. The sign up pages make you wonder if you were giving your info to a shabby PC running in a teenager’s bedroom (I don’t know if it’s actually the case) but hey, it works. So far I haven’t found another else that does (without Outlook).
hat tip to digitalfrontier.

I hope this continues to be supported and developed. This is the solution I was looking for.
